Eh, just drew a few closeups of the girl from this months theme. I thought i'd try adding some text and tone to one of them... nothing great, it is what it is.

The Three B's

Tried to make it look like an animation cell set up. Wish I tried to do the BG traditionally. In regards to the characters, I think the design is too much influenced by a cartoon I seen a long while ago so I am also posting sketches of some newer designs.

Breaking the rules

I really liked the simple character descriptions and enjoyed creating them with the idea that they would compliment each other. Not sure if it really shows but it was fun non the less...

I spent a lot of time really trying to nail down an appealing UPA cartoon style, but it just seemed to fall flat the way I was doing it. So I kind of disregarded the stylistic criteria and focused on the characters by them selves. Maybe now that I have the characters designed I'll go back and try some differant stylistic variations on them.

I'm interested to see how others handle this style and what character archetypes everyone comes up with.

Some inspirational material

If anybody is stumped on the Brawn part, maybe this will help

Classic MST3K

Highly Stylizied

This month I would like to try my hand at doing some outer space/alien planet designs along with the 3 space adventurers that keep space a safe place. Adventures along the lines of the old Flash Gordon comic strips. The characters consist of

1- The brains of the group
2- The brawn and
3- The Beauty.

The personalities of these characters are up to you, but the catch is that I want the design to have either an old 1950's retro style or a highly stylized look to them as well as their environment.

I'm hoping this is a good way to better explore shape , color and texture and do so in a more loose way. Especially for the backgrounds/environment. I would look to UPA cartoons and maybe Tim Biskup. Lynne Naylor might have some stuff but defiantly UPA for a more abstract looking design approach.

Hope this is enough info to get everyone started and keep everyone interested enough to explore alternative designs based on this theme.
